Local man makes a community come together
Cromwell, CT - A long-time West Hartford resident will see his dream become a reality next month with a local car wash that will be held with the help of students from the Community Service Club at Hall High School. A few years ago Joe began a small neighborhood car wash to raise funds for Mosaic's Wishes and Dreams Fund and hopes that through expanding his dream others will be able to fulfill their dreams as well. The car wash will take place on Saturday June 4, 2011 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at the American School for the Deaf at 139 North Main Street, West Hartford. (A rain date is scheduled for Sunday June 5, 2011.) Mosaic in Connecticut is a nonprofit organization which provides a life of possibilities for people with intellectual disabilities. Joe is a friendly, gentle, caring man with an intellectual disability who lives in a Mosaic residential group home near West Hartford's Blue Back Square. Expanding past the boundaries of his neighborhood, Joe is looking forward to including the greater community in his car wash and wants to help raise awareness about people with disabilities. people in service to have their own special moments in life like; take vacations, attend summer camp, visit family, cheer on their favorite sports team, listen and enjoy their favorite musical performer, and much more. The Fund additionally supports the basic needs of individuals, such as; hearing aids, dental visits, clothes, household needs, etc. The Community Service Club students at Hall High School are partnering to plan the car wash, solicit donations, and promote the event in their neighborhoods. All 25 members of the Community Service Club along with Mosaic staff, and Joe will be on site to help wash cars and to advocate for people with disabilities. Students in the club have chosen Joe's Car Wash as their project for the year and have been working alongside Joe and Mosaic to help make the car wash a success as well as a positive contribution to their community.. Mosaic provides a life of possibilities for people with intellectual disabilities through supports which are tailored to the individual's needs and desires. We support people to define their own happiness. We ask people how they like to spend their day, what they love to do in their spare time, where they want to live and goals they would like to achieve. Then we partner with them to make those things happen.Community Support Services For The Deaf - News
